Local firefighters teamed up with Bradley students at a breakfast Saturday with the goal to educate people on the issue of residential fires.
Residents of the 61604 zip code were invited to the breakfast, where they ate pancakes and discussed topics such as family evacuation plans and fire prevention. The students were working on their capstone project of tackling an issue in the Peoria area.
Kaitlin Stone who is a student at Bradley University said, "We are hoping to teach the community that fire safety and prevention is very important especially in a neighborhood such as this with older homes with families with children. So our goal for today is to have them take away a little more knowledge of fire safety and prevention, and how they can keep themselves and their families safe."
Fire fighters were available to answer any questions, as well as help families sign up for smoke detectors.
