The J.C. Penney stores in Bloomington and Canton will close this year, according to a list released by the company Friday.
The company announced last month that 138 stores and a supply chain facility would close this year. 5,000 employees will also be laid off nationwide. The company said they are providing either relocation opportunities or help finding a new job for the affected employees.
Stores in Peru, Macomb, Effingham, Sterling and Woodridge will also close in Illinois. The location at Peoria's Northwoods Mall is unaffected.
J.C. Penney said liquidation of assets at those locations will begin April 17.
In a statement, Eastland Mall owners CBL & Associates said they are talking with potential new tenants for both the mall's J.C. Penney location and the Macy's location. There are no concrete plans for either space at this time, a spokeswoman said.
