A water main break at the intersection of NE Perry and Main in Downtown Peoria is causing headaches for drivers Friday.
An Illinois American Water spokeswoman said crews discovered a second split valve while working to dig to repair the first break. A surge of water pressure in the early morning likely caused the break.
Crews are working to set up detours and keep at least one lane open in all directions while work continues. Both valves are currently undergoing repair to reduce flooding and damage to the roads over the weekend. It is hoped water service will be restored by late evening Friday.
The water main break is located just blocks from the Peoria Civic Center, where the IHSA State Basketball Tournament is taking place.
The following businesses and buildings will be under a boil order after water service is restored.
Some of the businesses are using bottled water.
