The recently hired general manager at the Four Points Hotel says there have been unexpected problems discovered during renovations
"Hawkeye Hotels is taking their excitement to do the proper job well and fixing things correctly," said Four Points By Sheraton Hotel General Manager John Brinkman.
Brinkman says the 323 room hotel is undergoing a major overhaul including the swimming pool.
"When this group took over the hotel, they did a tour of the facility and realized that particular area is huge for the type of business that comes in with teams and tours and events," he said.
The front entrance is also being redone. But the multimillion dollar renovation won't make the deadline for the Illinois High School Basketball Association tournament in two weeks. Hospitality officials say reopening the hotel is critical to attracting bigger convention groups.
Last year during one event tourists were forced to get rooms elsewhere in East Peoria and even as far away as Bloomington. One tourism official say that's not necessarily a bad thing.

Both the Levee District and the Warehouse District compliment each other well. Other side of the river has a lot of chains people are comfortable with. Over here in the Warehouse District people head to Sugar and Thyme, they're gonna get that unique Peoria meal," said Peoria Area Convention and Visitors Bureau official Cory Hatfield.
Hatfield says when the Four Points reopens downtown Peoria will have more than 950 hotel rooms plenty for accommodating larger conventions.
