An unusually contested race for Peoria Township Supervisor is set to become a faceoff between a Republican and a Democrat.
Long-time supervisor Joe Whalen is not seeking re-election to the position. The supervisor manages property tax assessments and distributes township public aid.
Democrats Frank Abdnour, Sam Joseph, Evonne Fleming, Harvey Burnett and Clyde Gulley are running for the Democratic spot. Republicans Dan Sullivan and Michael Aiello are also competing.
The winners of the respective primaries will compete in April.
