A near head-on collision has left a local woman dead.
Illinois State Police say the crash between a Chevy van and a semi happened just after 2 p.m.
Sixty-eight-year-old Linda Pratt of Streator was heading west on Interstate 74 when, for reasons we may never know, she attempted a U-turn onto the ramp for Interstate 474 west.
She turned into the path of semi -- that was hauling several tons of seed corn. The trucker could not stop in time and hit Pratt's van, nearly head-on. Another trucker, just 30 feet behind the van, tried to help after calling 911.
"The only thing I could do is pull over and see if anybody needs help,” said truck driver Christopher Lynch. “Make sure everybody is okay, and i seen the driver laying there and she was not okay. She was pretty hurt. "
The driver of the semi involved in the accident is from Nebraska. He was not injured and has not been cited.
All lanes are again open to traffic after most were shut down during the investigation.
