Full bellies and warm hearts is the goal for the Peoria Park District district this holiday.
The district teamed up with Grace Presbyterian Church and Dunlap Valley Middle School to give Christmas dinner and warm coats to one hundred deserving central Illinois families.
Emily Cahill from the Peoria Park District says those families were hand-picked by the students.
"Our community is only as good as the family with the least things, so it is important that we work together to make sure everybody has a happy Christmas, and if we do that through collaboration then we have done our jobs as community members," said Cahill.
Over 200 coats and 100 boxes of food were collected for local families in need.
