PEORIA, Ill. – Illinois American Water is reducing projected water rate increases in Pekin and Peoria after the Illinois Commerce Commission adjusted them on Tuesday.
Peoria customers using 4,500 gallons of water a month will now pay an additional $3.54 a month, with an average monthly bill of $46.38.
Meanwhile, the average Pekin customer could see a monthly rate decrease of 24 cents a month.
Illinois American Water said $342 million in infrastructure improvements was included in the rate change request that was not previously reflected in rates.
The ICC approved $35.3 million in rate increases, a reduction from the $49.5 million that Illinois American Water requested. This came after an 11-month review of the request.
Customers in Pontiac, Lincoln and Streator will also see reduced rates than expected.
The new rates go into effect Jan. 1
