You Gotta Eat: River 1000

EAST PEORIA, Ill. -- River 1000 in East Peoria opened in July, right next to to Walmart on Riverside Drive.

It's a Chinese buffet and traditional dining, featuring seafood, steaks and owner Raymond Poon's favorite -- sushi.

"My favorite sushi would be a Las Vegas sushi roll," said Poon. "They're very good. We make them with crab meat and cream cheese."

The lunch buffet is incredibly affordable. All you can eat for $8.99.

There's everything from shrimp to crab Rangoon. And yes, you can even get one of Raymond's Las Vegas sushi rolls.

In the evening, the dinner buffet runs $13.99 and features prime rib and crab legs.

I was there for lunch and it seemed everyone in the restaurant had their own personal favorite.

There's so much there, it's difficult to choose, so I took a few recommendations and built my own meal at the buffet.

I settled on some Mongolian beef, General Tso's chicken, crab Rangoon, fried rice and something called peanut butter chicken. I'd never tried it before, but being a fan of peanut butter I had to give it a try and it was very good. So was everything else.

There was also plenty of fresh fruit.

I made sure to save room for dessert. There's a entire wall of them here and its included in the price of the buffet. I chose the chocolate banana cake and it was as good it looked.

With a soft drink my bill was $11.87.

River 1000 is open seven days a week starting at 11 a.m. If you like Chinese food and you want a feast, give it a try.
