You Gotta Eat: Jack's Cafe

You Gotta Eat: Jack's Cafe

TREMONT, Ill. -- There's a new family style restaurant in Tremont that's already got customers coming back for a second helping.

Jack's Cafe in Tremont opened in November. It's a family owned restaurant with a menu featuring home cooked style meals.

“I started as a dishwasher, worked my way up to a busboy and then I went in the kitchen,” said Jack Pinjolli.

And he never left. In fact, he's passed on his culinary secrets to his daughter, Besa, who shares Jack's love for cooking.

“I always try to come up with new things and make sure that it’s made from scratch. I don't like to use measuring cups a lot so a lot of it is mixing things together,” said Besa Pinjolli.

That pinch-of-this, dash-of-that approach has been a hit with customers, many of whom have already turned into regulars.

My visit was on the recommendation of a co-worker who had told me about the generous portions. Boy, was he was right. I ordered half a fried chicken, with mashed potatoes and gravy, a bowl of delicious beef barley soup and a bread basket all for $9.99. It was enough food for two and was a real home-style delight.

The chicken was juicy and the soup was hearty; a meal in itself.

I didn't save room for dessert but their cakes and pies were still calling my name.

With a soft drink my bill, was just over $12 before tip.

Jack's Cafe is located at 130 Lake St. in Tremont and opens every day at 6 a.m. There's also a Jack's in LeRoy.

The price is right and the food is outstanding. I think you'll like it.
