PEORIA, Ill. -- The City of Peoria is hosting a community discussion next week to talk about the issues brought up after 24/7 Wall Street named the region the worst metropolitan area in the U.S. for black Americans.
The discussion is set for 6 p.m. on Dec. 6 at the Gateway Building in downtown Peoria.
The Peoria area ranked sixth on the list last year, but moved up to number one in this year's ranking by the financial news website.
The report looked at data such as unemployment, incarceration rates and median income of the Peoria area's black residents compared with white residents.
Attendees to the meeting will work in small groups with city staff to talk about issues of economic disparity, health, employment and education as well as identify solutions to move forward.
People wanting to attend are asked to RSVP to City Manager Patrick Urich at firstname.lastname@example.org or by calling 494-8524.
