PEORIA, Ill. -- Illinois State Police says you can expect to see more troopers on the roads this holiday season.
Troopers say their increased numbers and visibility does help remind drivers to slow down, but they want motorists to do their part as well.
They are asking travelers to stay off their phones, drive the speed limit, and make sure they are not driving impaired.
"I would encourage all to have some type of a plan in place," said Trooper Ross Green of the Illinois State Police.
"Whether that's knowing that Uber is on their phone, or a taxi number, or just knowing somebody that can come pick them up who's sober," he said.
State troopers and local police departments will be out Wednesday through Sunday conducting roadside safety checks, cracking down on speeders and those who are not wearing their seat belts.
