I am Doug Smith, a native of Dothan, Alabama, and senior photographer at WEEK/HOI.
I have been involved in television since my 1984 graduation, with a BA degree in Journalism, from Troy State University, in Alabama and I have been a staple in News Photography in the Central Illinois area since 1990.
Videography and underwater photography are my passions. It’s rare that you’ll see me without a camera in my hands! I enjoy bringing community stories to life so that viewers can see what is happening around the area. I am well known around town and always have time to stop and chat with friends and strangers alike. I always have a joke or pun ready for any situation and those who know me can attest to that!
On a personal level, I enjoy scuba diving, underwater photography, traveling, telling jokes and anything relating to the ocean. If I could, I would live on a beachfront property with a view of the ocean and the sound of the waves all around ME. Some of MY other interests include sports (both watching and playing), reading, going to the theater and listening to all kinds of music.
You may also recognize ME as the "balloon guy". Thanks to my love and talent for entertaining, I have been a professional balloon artist for the past 21 years. I am the owner of “The Unique Twist”, affording me the opportunity to entertain thousands of children and adults alike with extremely unique balloon creations.
'Full of artistic talents and fun' best describes my life.– and I wouldn’t have it any other way!
