Brian Leclerc is the new kid on the block. But the Chiefs’ 22 year-old outfielder has already covered a lot of ground.

"I was in Mesa for a day and I was in Boise for two days before I was moved up here. I was moved up twice in a matter of three days."

The well traveled Leclerc was only drafted last month in the 31st round. The Cubs first noticed him two years ago. As a sophomore at Florida, Brian helped lead the Gators to the finals of the College World Series where they lost to Texas. But even without a trophy it was a rewarding experience.

"Just the atmosphere, the fans are unbelievable. We set a record when we played Nebraska. There were over 40,000 people there at the stadium and seeing 7 orange shirts in a sea of red, that was the one thing I’ll never forget."

Leclerc considers it an honor to play for Chiefs' manager Ryne Sandberg. But he’s not the only hall of famer Brian’s been exposed to. Wade Boggs, a regular customer of a jewelry store owned by his father, has provided Leclerc with some gems of his own.

"I talked to him on the phone when I was up in the Cape Cod League and I was struggling. He called me with some advice just trying to tell me some things that he would do whenever he was struggling. It kind of jump started my season up there."

With guidance like that Leclerc should be on the move up again soon.
