Marc Spicijaric is trying to take his game to a new level.
"I’m trying to go as far as my ability will take me. Getting in the top 100 in the world would be a great goal, a great achievement. But I know that’s very difficult."
Spicijaric will be a senior at the University of Illinois this fall. He says it was 10 consecutive Big Ten titles and a national championship that convinced him to leave the orange groves in his hometown of Tampa, Florida, to wear the orange and blue.
"That’s something really special. It takes a lot of hard work by the coaching staff and the recruiting and recruiting the right guys. Building a team chemistry. Its really special in a sport for one team to win ten in a row."
Spicijaric has begun to make his mark on the Futures Tour. By winning his match Wednesday he advanced to the round of 16 and earned his first point on tour.
"Its great to pick up that first point. It’s a relief, especially going through qualifying and grinding through that, playing well today and winning today. I’m just telling myself one shot at a time, one point at a time. If I keep thinking like that the points will come."
Marc is majoring in sports management at the U of I. And on the court he’s managing just fine.
