Bobby McGrath first picked up a pool cue as a 7 year-old. At 8 he was beating players more than twice his age.

"My first tournament back in 1987 I played an 18 year-old kid in the finals and I beat him like he wasn’t even there. I was 8 years-old."

Twenty years later the Washington, Illinois, native has won two state titles and four international championships. And earlier this month Bobby took home $50,000 on ESPN when he captured the World Speed Pool title in Las Vegas.

"I always thought I’d be on TV for 9-ball or some other event when I was 35 or 40 years-old. I didn’t think it would happen this fast. I just got lucky. I won a tournament and then they invited me to this tournament and then I win the tournament."

Even though he’s not a member of a professional tour Bobby’s pay day in Las Vegas put him 8th on the money list. And there have been a few other times where he’s cashed in.

"I can remember once incident, I was down here at Rocky’s. I said, ‘We’re playing for 5 bucks a game, right?’ And he says, ‘5,10,20, whatever you want to play for.’ I told him, ‘Let’s play for 20.’ I let him shoot 5 times a game or something like that and about $500 later he quit."
