Irish goalie Alexa Rooney makes it a fab five with today's signing. Notre Dame's Carrie Dahlquist is going to Creighton, Haley Pschirrer to Aurora, Rachel Blakesly to Iowa, and Britain Rooney to Loras College. All are moving on up to the next level.

"We've all been playing soccer since we were little, since we were five, said Dahlquist. "I've played with Rachel since I was five. Haley has always been at the club too. We've all been on varsity for two or three years. Our work ethic really got us where we are."

"Rachel's a great player," said Pschirrer. " I'm actually surprised she didn't get a scholarship. I think that she will definitely her sophomore year and same with Carrie as well. She's gotten so much better this year. She's an amazing player as well, she's really helped the team. Brit's great and Alexa, of course, is an amazing goalie. I've never seen a better girl goalie. I've never played against a better girl goalie in my life."

These Irish carrying on a proud soccer tradition, a storied program that makes history with today's signing.

"I think it shows how hard we've all worked because you know it's not easy to get recruited," said Britain Rooney. "You know, it kinda shows the dedication that we have to soccer and how much we love it."

But for now, college can wait. These ladies have some work left to do in their Irish uniforms after missing out on a trip to state last season.

"It's really mixed emotions," said Blakesly. " We're really excited and thrilled to get a new beginning and to get this weight off our shoulders, but also we're kinda sad for it to end. You know, it's coming to that post–season time and we're just so excited though to get a strong finish to this high school season."

"We all really want to make it to state this year and so we're really pushing hard to finish off our season and do good and keep that competitive streak going," said Alexa Rooney.

"They know, hey, this is our last shot to do something and they talk about that all the time," said Notre Dame soccer coach Matt Blackford. "They want to go farther than they did last year and go farther than they ever have in their four years here."
