In Washington, March Madness still hasn't ended. Even with the basketball season behind him Kevin Brown continues coaching.

"When I thought about taking this job my wife said, 'Why not? What do you do all spring? You worry about why you lost the last basketball game.' And I'm not worrying about why we lost the last basketball game. I'm worrying about the next baseball game."

Just like the last basketball game, the Panthers' last baseball game was also in a state tournament, where they finished third in class-2A last June. That means in less than a year Brown, and junior Ben Worner, have been to state twice.

"Yeah, I've thought about that a little bit," said Worner, a starter on both the baseball and basketball teams. "I'm hoping to get three more by the end of my high school career."

"Just knowing that we've played in big games, we'll have confidence when we get in big games this year." said senior infield Matt Schwenk.

Brown admits its going to be a little harder for the Panthers to get back to state. Six starters from last season have graduated. But his team is driven by what they've experienced over the past year.

"I thought it was very important that they got that taste (last year). I coached with John Snyder at Central Catholic for years and he used to have a saying that if you could bottle what it felt like to play in a state tournament guys would work a heck of a lot harder all year long. I think there's a lot to that."

Judging by what his teams have accomplished the past year Brown has a bottle of that stuff.
