"I decided to come out for football a couple of days after basketball ended and give it a shot."

The 6'11 Dyer is hoping to become college football's tallest punter, trying out this spring for the Redbird football team. Head coach Denver Johnson says Dyer sticks out like a sore thumb.

"He stands out – not only in the huddle, but you put him back there in punt formation and it’s hard not to notice the guy."

The NCAA lets athletes who've spent four years in one sport play a fifth year in another. And since Dyer was an all–state punter at his Colorado high school he decided to give it a shot. But at almost 7–feet, Levi gives long snapper Joe Doyle some extra things to think about.

"The fact that he’s further away is something that I have to get used to. The first few days it was a little difficult, I had to put that little bit extra on the ball. I’m starting to get used to it and I like it now. It’s a real sense of relief because I know I can just let it go and he’s 6’11”, he can go grab it."

And Dyer seems to be catching on as well.

"I didn’t really work on it that much in high school. It was one of those things where the coach asked who could punt in high school and I said I could. I could do it but I’ve never had the kind of coaching that I’ve had here."

Dyer averaged 49 yards per punt as a high school senior. It would a kick if he made the team.
