While many are thinking about the holiday, family get–togethers, or shopping, the Metamora Redbirds are all business.
Metamora trying to win back–to–back 5A state football titles, focused on Saturday's 10 A–M kickoff with Wheaton St. Francis.
Following the lead of their unsung heroes.
Metamora has rushed for 61 touchdowns this season
Michael Fay, Aaron Peters, Cody Konega in the spotlight making the highlights.
Metamora Senior lineman Jason Randolph said, "News crews and everything may not credit us. It’s alright. I’m used to it."
They may not get the credit on TV but their Quarterback and coach know how important they are.
Metamora Quarterback Michael Fay said, "The offensive line is a huge factor in our game. They won a state championship last year, I mean a lot of them started so they have experience there. They know what the atmospheres like there, they know what its like to play for a state championship"
Metamora head coach Pat Ryan said, "We’ve had lines that were bigger. I don’t know if we’ve had any that were any better. The number of games they’ve played together is a real asset. They work will together. They adjust well and they encourage one another"
The redbirds o-line is a close knit group that spends time together both on and off the field. Every Wednesday during the season the group hits the local Chinese Buffet and when they walk in the door they see a look of concern in the eyes of the other diners.
Randolph said, "They see us come in and you can tell even if they still have food on their plate they usually go up and get more before we start."
What happens when a group of offensive linemen walk into a buffet?
Metamora lineman Nick Taseff said, "They defiantly lose some revenue. We eat a lot."
The Redbirds hope next Wednesday's trip to the buffet is a victory celebration.
