There's a huge volleyball match Tuesday night in Metamora. The undefeated Lady Redbirds host Morton, who are also perfect in conference play.
It's ready, set go for Morton and Metamora tomorrow night. The Lady Potters lost a close match to Metamora earlier this month in the Jacksonville tournament.
"At the time it was our fourth match of the day, as it was for Metamora," said Morton volleyball coach Jami Greve. " We were all kinda in the same shape, so it was an even playing field. We lost by two in both games, so you can’t get much closer than that."
Both teams will be fresh tomorrow night, for what's become the Mid–Illini's best volleyball rivalry.
"It’s always unpredictable and very exciting to play Metamora, especially at their place," said Morton senior Shannon McGlaughlin.
" I think it’s given us a lot of motivation these last few weeks we’ve been working really hard. Hopefully it’ll be a good game."
Turns out every match is a road match for Coach Greve. She quit teaching locally last year and moved back to the Chicago suburbs, where she's from...but she had to return to coach this team one last season.
"I had a decision to make last fall, whether or not to come back, and I looked at a bunch of the returning players and I didn’t have the heart to tell them no."
"They are great kids. They’ve been with me, some of them, for three years so I want to see them through their last year."
"I absolutely love it," said McGlaughlin. " Having Greve here is great for me and everyone else here too. She’s showed us a lot of dedication for her to come back here for the season, and then that’s it."
"We are so appreciative," said Morton senior Brooke Bisping. " We love Coach Greve. She brings out the best in every player she coaches. She’s just an awesome coach and we are really thankful that she decided to come back and stay with us for another year."
