August 11: Construction Brake

By Jeff Muniz

The orange barrels seem to be out for as many paint crews as road repair crews recently. Here's a look at more area lane reductions in this week's Construction Brake.

Less than two years after completion, paint was already peeling off overhead signs on Interstate 74 in Peoria and East Peoria.

Crews started this weekend from Gale to War Memorial in Peoria and near Main Street in East Peoria. Some of the paint crews will still be out on Monday and again for the next two weekends.

Also starting Monday, crews will be repairing the Pinecrest Avenue ramps in East Peoria. The first one to close will be the westbound 74 on-ramp. There will be a detour.

But, it will take until the end of September to complete all ramps, which will be closed one at a time.

Then during the nighttime hours, crews will close the left lane on westbound 74 from 474 to Washington Street. They're replacing cable rails until late November.

And, the paint crews on Interstate 155 have made it to Tremont. So expect lane reductions on Route 9 as they paint the overpass there until Friday, August 22nd.

And, Caterpillar Mossville workers take note that on Tuesday and Wednesday major paving work will take place on Illinois Route 6 at Route 29. Traffic in both directions will be brought to a complete stop at times.

For a list of other current construction projects, check out previous week's Construction Brakes under the Traffic Link at the top of the page.

Drive carefully and watch out for those orange barrels.
