The Illinois Department of Transportation (IDOT) has just about run out of money for fuel.

Skyrocketing prices plus a rough winter weather season is making spring a slow season for workers.

The roads are rough after so much salt and other chemicals were tossed on them over the winter.

Overall, Illinois roads will not look too pretty for at least the next month and a half.

It will be a bumpy ride on many roads as potholes will only be filled on an emergency basis.

Also, dead deer or other animals and debris will only be moved if it's in the middle of lanes.

IDOT Operations Engineer Shane Larson said, "We expended all of our full budget or almost all of it so we can't maintain our normal operations until July 1st."

Larson says the state spent nearly 90-million dollars on clearing state highways and interstates this winter. IDOT budgeted about $40 million.

That means workers are keeping their trucks parked and doing odd jobs around the maintenance yard like painting trashcans and cleaning trucks.

The shortfall though will not impact the large road construction projects because those are under a different line in the budget.

Now, the state house has approved $20 million in emergency funding to get crews back on the roads for repairs.

That bill is now sitting in the Senate.
