Residents who live along the Sterling Entrance Ramp off Interstate 74 wanted IDOT to build them a noise wall four years ago.

At first, IDOT said the neighborhood did not qualify for a barrier.

That ended up being a mistake, and contractors began moving dirt for the project last year.

Today, progress on the wall is apparent to everyone driving by.

Donald W. Doyle owns property on Westport Road and said, "It's kinda like waiting for Christmas. Finally it's here, and then it's over. But the wall will stay, Christmas comes and goes but the wall's going to be here forever."

The wall costs almost a million dollars.

The state will pay for ten percent of it and federal funds will take care of the rest.
