Schock Speaks about Presidential Support

By WEEK Producer

Details are still being worked out for the appearance of President Bush in Peoria later this month.

Mr. Bush will be fundraising for GOP Congressional candidate Aaron Schock.

Although the President's popularity nationally is low, he's a powerful fundraiser for the Republican Party... raising nearly 70 million dollars during 31 political events this year.

Schock says the next member of Congress from the 18th District will be chosen on their merits –not because of how campaigns for them.

Debates between Schock, Democrat Colleen Callahan and Green Party Candidate Sheldon Shafer are still being set up.

I will not vote for him. You take the backing of someone who is obviouly out of touch what does that make you? Either a sidekick or self serving.

So many negative comments here.., sad some of our locals do not understand the sentence.. "Although the President's popularity nationally is low, he's a powerful fundraiser for the Republican Party... raising nearly 70 million dollars during 31 political events this year." He is looking for finacial support, not 'political ideals' support. This is opportunity, not a coalition.

I think Schock has done a great job thus far, but he should be embarrassed to have Bush support his running for political office. Bush is a disgrace to this country. Bad move, Schock.

After the mess Bush has made of our economy and global standing, there's no way I'm going to vote for Schock. Having the president come to raise money for him is akin to agree with the way thing are.
