News 25's Denise Jackson has more on what some local democratic party officials are saying about the big moment in this nation's history.

Barack Obama ushered in a new era Tuesday night when he won more total delegates than Hillary Clinton in the democratic race for the White House.

It was a moment 18th Congressional District Democratic State Central Committeeman James Polk did not think he would witness during his lifetime.

Polk said, "I have been involved in civil rights for 40 years and to be alive for something like this is a joyful time for me and a wonderful time to be here in the United States."

Peoria County Democratic Party Chairman Billy Halstead says many people see Obama as the kind of leader who can unite people across party lines.

"He's done that here in Illinois and I believe he can do that in the whole country."

Before he even announced his candidacy, State Senator Dave Koehler has predicated Obama will win the White House. Koehler says Obama is the most qualified candidate.

The Democrat from the Illinois 46th District said, "It's something that in Illinois we always knew he was gonna do it just because we know him and what kind of a class person he is and it is just nice to see the rest of the world accept him as well."

Some might consider Hillary Clinton a wildcard now that the primaries are over and she is not conceding defeat to Obama. Clinton says she will take a few days to consider her next move.

There are still plenty more cards to be played in this political race. But the future, however historic lies in this hand.

I'm not voting for a man/woman who wants to make "spanish" the language of the American land. This IS AMERICA and we do SPEAK AMERICAN.

I don't think race matters at this point in the world. It will be congress and the people influencing his decisions anyway.

Black or white who cares! After Mccain sold Budweiser to the foreign nation we have to ask what that family is all about. Not our country!

For anyone aware of the civil rights movement of the 1950's this moment was so special.America with all its challenges showed its better angels last night.Let's understand what we just witnessed and where america's greatness truly lies-in its people and why we love our country and are willingness to die so a Barrack Obama can stand in front of millions and say I'm the nomminee of my party for the president of the USA.
