Quinn Pushes For Recall Opportunity

Illinois voters are one step away from getting a say about putting politicians out of office before their terms are up.

Lieutenant Governor Pat Quinn stopped in Peoria today to push state senators to approve a recall amendment.

The state house approved the measure last week.

If 3/5ths of the senate gives it the okay, then voters would get their say at the ballot box this November.

Quinn said, "I think the people of our state are sick and tired of corruption. They want to make sure their taxes do not pay for political scandals. And, the best way to assure that is to give voters more power."

He believes if voters approve recall November 4, a petition will start soon after to get Governor Rod Blagojevich out of office.

Eighteen other states already give voters the power of recall.

Yes on the recall - while we are at it - how about a law forcing our elected officials to show up for work instead of campaigning for over a year?

Put it on a ballot; don't let legislators vote on it. They will look to protect their interest, not the interests of the voters. I KNOW they would be overwhelmed by the number of voters voting to recall elected officials for poor performance.

I believe if any elected official is not doing his job he was elected to do, the voters should be able to vote them out. I also believe we should clean house and put all new officials in. The current ones are sure not doing what they were elected to do. Too much money going in the pockets - not enough going where it is supposed to go - i.e. roads, schools.
