The party selected Kathy Cummings. Sheldon Schafer, a founding member of the local Green Party and nominee for the 18th congressional seat, says the Green Party is an alternative to the dominant parties in the United States.

"We think democracy works better with multiple voices. Three or four party systems introduce new conversations into the political arena," Schafer says.

Kathy Cummings is a retired special education teacher from Chicago. She is running against incumbant Dick Durbin, who is a Democrat.

I am very pleased that Illinois voters will have a Green Party choice for US Senate in November! Live Green, Vote Green.

Forward Green Party! Forward Kathy Cummings! Is Dick Durbin a Democrat? Hard to tell from his conservative record. I'm voting Obama for President and Cummings for Illinois senate, the most Progressive pair for the state. Cummings means progress for Illinois! Down with Durbin! Up with Cummings!
