Callahan today talked about her trip to Iraq in November, 2003, with then Secretary of Agriculture Ann Veneman. The congressional candidate feels the U.S. has had a positive impact in the region, but feels the war should end.

The 18th District candidate said, "And that means to not abandon our troops, it means to be there for our troops as they are needed but it doesn't mean that we continue to fund the reconstruction of Iraq. It's time for the Iraqi people to do that, and the Iraqi government to do that."

Republican candidate Aaron Schock said, "We have to be responsible and think long term not just today and tomorrow. What's doing to be the best security for our country."

Callahan and Schock are running to replace the retiring Ray LaHood.

I would like to see and end to this war. But how would Qadea view it! Cowardice! We must keep in mind there mentality. It is not like ours. What do we really want, a battle with Qaeda on our soil. If we do not leave responsible, this could be the results. what will we be leaving our children.
