Flanked by her family, husband, daughter and mother, Callahan made the official announcement this morning at her home in Kickapoo.

Last week, WEEK reported Democratic leaders in the congressional district picked Callahan as their candidate. She was the only one running.

Callahan feels her background in agriculture and broadcasting are much needed assets for the job.

She said, "I've been a voice for those you didn't feel they had one. And I've been a voice when many believed theirs needed to be amplified. I'll do the same in congress."

Callahan faces Republican candidate Aaron Schock in the November General election to replace retiring Ray LaHood.

She will also announce her candidacy in Springfield and Quincy this afternoon.
