And a former radio ag–reporter says she's brave enough to challenge the popular, young politician.

Democratic officials say Judge Richard Grawey is no longer interested in running for the seat.

Aaron Schock was on the phones the day after his win. "I'll need your continued support from now until November."

In day one of his campaign for the general election, 18th congressional Republican nominee Aaron Schock made calls to thank those who helped his landslide primary victory over his opponents.
But with that win behind him, he says it's time to move forward.

"We're beginning to reach out to all the Democratic and independent voters who couldn't vote in the primary this time around," said Schock.

But Colleen Callahan says those are her votes for the taking as she vies to be the Democratic nominee. She stepped into the News 25 studio Wednesday in part of what she calls an exciting time to jump into the race. But with Schock's popularity, some call the move foolish.

"Clearly he has momentum. He's raised a lot of money," said agriculture reporter.

But Callahan says she's gained a lot of support from area Democrats.

"They asked me because they felt I was an appropriate, electable candidate."

"If Colleen Callahan is the one the chairmen choose, I think she has an excellent chance to beat Aaron Schock and I feel very strongly that we can win that seat back," said Peoria County Democratic Chairman Billy Halstead.

"I think I'm in a position to hold this seat and I think I'm in a position to be successful in November and we're going to work hard at it," said Schock.

Callahan says she's in a good position too, .but she has to win over Democratic committeemen in the 20–county district for the nomination before she and Schock can do battle to win over voters.

The Democrats expect to officially announce their nominee during the first week of March.
