Kiki Wood's favorite classroom won't come until next year, her last year before retirement.

That's when she'll move out of this nostalgic tile chipped, blackboard classroom to something state of the art.

The Oakdale First Grade teacher said, "Leveling our playing field for our students is only fair. And, that's what we're doing."

With this property tax increase, eight schools will get renovated over the next three years.

The district will also build two new elementary schools, a middle school along with an addition to another school.

Superintendent Gary Niehaus said, "We're going to have some room by 2010 but by 2015 we'll be full again. It's kind of unbelievable."

He expects the next classroom crunch to come in 2015 here at the high schools. A decision will need to be made on whether to add on or build another school.

"I think we're going to need to look at other forms of revenue to take some pressure off our local taxpayers."

By approving the recent referendum, taxpayers with a $200,000 home will pay 170 dollars more a year in property taxes.
