A Black Hawk College student from Tremont is set to become a rodeo ambassador
During the Labor Day weekend, equine science student Carly Ray Hagey was named “lady-in-waiting” at the Miss Rodeo Illinois pageant. She is poised to take the crown of Miss Rodeo Illinois 2008 cross country next year.
Black Hawk officials say she’ll prepare over the next few months to take over the reigns from Kelsea Dawn Walker. She’ll be an ambassador traveling across the country next year as she readies for the National Finals Rodeo competition in Las Vegas in December 2008.
In a press release Carly said, “I was so excited. We competed over the weekend giving a two-minute speech, modeling, answering impromptu questions and doing interviews with the judges. I was fortunate to win the Horsemanship and Miss Congeniality categories, then was named Miss Rodeo Illinois.”
From the time she was two-years-old, Carly has ridden horses, even pretending to be a horse when she was a child.
In high school, she competed in barrel racing, breakaway roping, ran poles and goat tied. She qualified for the National Barrel Horse Association Youth Barrel Show in Jackson, Miss., where she placed 9th overall out of 900 contestants.
