Students from Pekin's Willow Primary School cash in today to find out how much money they've raised for St. Jude Children's Research Hospital.
The students have been raising money since September.
A ceremony was held this morning to inform teachers and students how much money they've raised. Mr. Michael Ritchason is a third grade teacher and the coordinator of the project. He says students have been eager about the fundraiser all along.
"We had kids that brought in parts of their allowance, parts of their birthday money and I'd see them in the hall..kids that I didn't really know. They'd come up to me and say, 'Hey Mr. Ritchason I brought in money today'. And they'd have a whole sort of bag full of pennies or nickels or things like that so they were really excited once we got them on board they ran with it all year long," said Fundraising Coordinator, Michael Ritchason.
The audience waited throughout the ceremony in anticipation to see how much money they pooled in.
And the grand total? A little more than $7,860!
The school has raised and donated nearly 22-thousand dollars for St. Jude within the past five years.

That is so great what those kids did and I wish other schools would do the same. It is a great way to help the community
