"2 side with the biker"?? Go look at the accident report. The van driver got the ticket & the witnesses indicate 'van pulled out in front biker".

this is for deb veach i would expect you 2 side with the biker but come on you bikers like to gun your bikes maybe not u but at least 65 percent of bikers do check the stats it will surprise you bikers think they have 2 speed off at intersections 2 attract attention i see it all the time its kind of hard for us 2 b defensive in that situation we cant judge a bike as easy cause it has more pick if your on a bike you need 2 be extra careful or stay off of them they are not toys

I see folks actually deciding who's fault this accident was when they don't have any facts. Here are some facts: Motorcycles are harder to see. Riders of motorcycles know this and they also know the risk they take everytime they get on a bike. Nobody hits motorcycles on purpose. That is murder. There are such things as accidents. There are also such things as preventable accidents. None of us are immune to accidents, so think before passing judgement. Let's all exercise defensive drivin

I KNOW FOR A FACT THE GUY ON THE BIKE WAS NOT GOING TOO FAST CAUSE I CAME UP ON THE ACCIDENT RIGHT AFTER IT HAPPENED AND SO DID MY BOSS WHO HAD JUST BEEN AT THORTONS GETTING GAS ALONGSIDE THE GUY ON THE BIKE. I ALSO RIDE A BIKE AND IT IS VERY SCARY HOW PEOPLE DON'T SEE US. HOWEVER I DRIVE ON THE DEFENSIVE ON MINE, I AM ALWAYS LOOKING FOR POSSIBLE MISHAPS AT ALL TIMES. I AM NOT AFRAID OF MINE BUT I DO NOT EVER WANT TO LOSE THE RESPECT YOU HAVE TO HAVE TO RIDE ONE.

This could someday be your loved one who could not afford gas or a large heavy vehicle payment & must drive a lightweight car or motorcycle. Nobody has an accident on purpose, but we all need to take extreme care paying attention for the mother, brother, sister, child, baby, grandma, or grandpa on the road. Take that extra look before pulling out. Slow down. Stay off the phone. It may be your own life you save.

MY AUNT AND UNCLE WERE KILLED ON A MOTORCYCLE BECAUSE SOME YOUNG KID THAT JUST GOT HIS LICENSE NOT LONG BEFORE PULLED RIGHT OUT IN FRONT OF THEM. THEY WERE NOT WEARING HELMETS BUT WITH ALL THE INTERNAL DAMAGE A HELMET WOULD NOT OF MADE A DIFFERENCE...THE KID WAS TOO BUSY NOT PAYING ATTENTION AT THE TIME...

My friend got killed on a motor cycle because a driver was paying more attention on her kid in the back seat then watching the road. Her mother and daughter was in the car behind her and watched it. People need to learn to watch what they are doing. It doesnt make a difference what you are driving you should be watching for other cars.

I too came up on this right after it happened and before the police arrived, it did not look good for that motorcyclist!! From what I saw I couldn't tell you what happened just saw the van and the motorcyle on the other side of the highway and the rider FAR from the bike. I happened directly in front of KMart. I was glad to see people running from LaGondola, Burger King and surrounding businesses to help!

It doesn't matter how fast our slow the bike was going, as usual someone wasn't paying attention.. Being a biker myself. You ride to enjoy the ride, no one I know speeds..

It doesnt matter if he's lights where on or not it was the middle of the day. I think the driver was just to stupid to. stop and take time to look. I mean I drive a small sports car and people still almost run into me. So it was not whatsoever the bikers fault at all. And by the way I know from driving a lot you cant always drive defensivly and be submissive to avoid any misunderstanding or anything like this to happen to anyone.

stop expecting a motorcycle to have the SAME breaking distance as a car & give them the room law requires

I came upon accident right after it happened. I pray the guy survived! It didn't look good. It's a very busy weekend in our town which doesn't make a difference. Driving defensively needs to happen ALL the time!It sure seemed to take a very long time to figure out the accident scene don't you think? I'm still praying hard for the guy on the bike!!

The motorcycles lights weren't on? That's very odd because a motorcycle's lights come on when it is started, there is no way to turn them on & off. I know this because my daughter & her husband & all of their friends ride. I admit I have seen many careless riders but come on people we have to watch for them. My son in law watches for a way out constantly when riding because he knows those in cars don't watch as closely as they should.

Just how fast was the Motorcycle moving? Over the limit? Under the limit? More times than not, I see 'cycles moving 20-40 mph OVER the limit thinking the world is their playground. They are hard enough to see let alone judge distance with a small object moving that fast. Not an excuse for the van, but a consideration for all about safety. Just because you "can" doesn't mean you should. Your life is also in your own hands.

does not matter what time of day or what day it is.does not matter what season it is as a driver with a license u have to be aware of the other vehicles on the road.they might be a motorcycle, they might be a suv it does not matter u as a driver have to take responsibility and watch out for yourself and others.obey the rules.if people did there would be a lot less problems.do not get in a hurry cause it is friday after work and all you want to do is get home.the one you might hit wants to too.

I see it all day long they pull out in front of you even on the highways thinking that you will be able to slow down or stop for them a lot of them are on cellphones but not all this happens to me every day I drive a semi with it's lights on and they wait till I am almost in the intersection when they pull out a big truck can weight up to 80,000LBS and at 55MPH it takes about the size of a football field to stop now just think in a crash like that who do you think will lose big time?

12:30p.m in pekin on a friday, doesn't suprise me one but. Everyone gets in a big rush going to the bank, filling up the car. All on a lunch break.

Friday, Sep 5 at 10:36 PM Sherri wrote ...

The fact of the matter is that people don't pay attention and are in too much of a rush to actually make a complete stop and look. Nearly ALL of these accidents could be avoided. Until fuel costs come down in price there will continue to be an increase in motorcycles and sub-compact vehicles on the road. One question I do have in regards to this case, was the driver of the van on the phone?
