An overturned semi tanker carrying sodium hydroxide caused huge travel headaches at Route 24 and Interstate 4–74 between Peoria and Bartonville today.
The accident happened just before eight this morning.
A truck carrying sodium hydroxide tipped over this morning.
Haz–mat crews arrived to clean up the lye. The Haz–Mat team then pumped the material into another truck.
The driver was going to fast and at the bottom of the ramp flipped over and slid about two hundred feet. He was carrying about four–thousand gallons of sodium hydroxide.
Adams Street between the Bartonville viaduct and I–4–74 reopened to northbound and southbound traffic about two this afternoon... along with the I–474 westbound exit ramp to Bartonville and Peoria.
The contents of the truck, lye, is used in many industries, mostly as a strong chemical base.
