Who Will McCain Pick for V.P?

By Michelle Mantel

Republicans are preparing for their convention in Saint Paul, Minnesota next week.

News 25's Michelle Mantel exclusively spoke with Demetra DeMonte, the Republican National Committeewoman from Pekin and has details on the possible Vice Presidential Candidates for the GOP.

The next question that's got to be answered is: Who will John McCain choose as a running mate?
GOP National Committeewoman Demetra DeMonte has some ideas.
But first, Republicans hit the airwaves with an ad quoting Joe Biden on Obama's (quote) lack of experience during the primaries.

The commercial ad says, "You asked is he ready, you said I think he can be ready but right now I don't believe he is. The presidency is not something that lends himself out to on the job training. I think that I stand by the statement."

The Democratic candidate for vice president must have changed his mind. As seen side by side next to his former opponent Barack Obama. Now they're on the same ticket.

GOP National Committeewoman Demetra DeMonte told News 25, "He said in 3 years ago he'd be pleased to be part of a John McCain ticket."

He's obviously changed his mind. Regardless, some republicans say they're concerned of Obama's lack of experience.

"It's very unfortunate that the Democrats have chosen someone who lacks experience, Hillary Clinton had experience but Barack Obama doesn't and I think a lot of people are afraid", said DeMonte.

As I listened to Demonte, she projected three possible Republican running mates.Governor Mitt Romney, who lost his chance at the presidency in the primaries. Tim Pawlenty, the current governor of Minnesota, and last but not least Senator Joe Lieberman.

DeMonte adds, "Tim Pawlenty is a governor so he has lots and lots of experience, and Joe Lieberman of course has been senator for may years, and Romney was in business and than he is now governor."

Who ever McCain picks, they'll have to stand strong if the want to bring in more supporters.
Obama is confidant America has their man to aid the country's next president.

When referring to Biden he said, "He did more that raise a family he raised a family that is the measure of the man who is going to be the next vice president of the U.S. of America!!"

But how important is the vice presidential selection in the long run?..

News 25's Michelle Mantel asked the National Committee Chairwoman, "How big of a role does selecting a Vice President actually play in terms of electing the next president of the US?"

Demonte answered, "Ultimately, I don't believe the vice presidential pick is really that significant. I think the voter looks as the top of the ticket. The president is the one who makes the decisions".

But McCain's still has to announce his decision. We'll find out who he selects during next week's convention.

The Democratic National Convention kicks off Monday in Denver.
News 25 and NBC will have complete coverage.
And next week, Demetra DeMonte will attend the Republican National Convention she'll keep News 25 and you up to date on details of that gathering.

If McCain wants to win, he will pick a female running mate and bring in all those Hillary votes.

the only way he'll win is if the picks Huckabee. such a pick will mobilize the evangelical enclave, which is a very powerful force thru out every state, red or blue. no other vp candidate will have the ability to ignite such mobilization.

so it looks like friday morning in Dayton Ohio ( Nutter Arena ) the world will see who McCain picks for VP. Dayton Ohio is middle America, with a closing GM SUV plant, over five Delphi closed in the last three years, DHL leaving and more. w need the next pres and vp to be with us and not against us. as for vp, i think either mitt or joe but joe almost got gore elected. actually gore lost because gore lost his own state of tenn, but joe won everywhere he campaigned in, mitt did pretty poorly

He needs a strong person with International background. Hence Condoleezza Rice is the best selection. They will most definately secure the votes to win the White House.

If he's smart, he'll pick Hillary. They're two peas in a pod and would work well together. Sterling Greenwood Aspen Free Press
