Troubling T-Intersection

By Jeff Muniz

A Peoria neighborhood calls it a troubling T–Intersection. There have been two crashes in two days and at least one family is ready to move.

In a span of 48 hours, this guardrail got hit twice. The first time the driver slid off the guardrail and hit a parked car in this driveway. The second time was much scarier as the driver went through the guardrail and into this house.

"I'm glad it wasn't in my bedroom. I'd be mad it if it was in my bedroom," said Trinity Alexander.

To Trinity's father, it was only a matter of inches or weeks before this alleged drunk driver could have done real devastating damage.

"Couple more weeks and that would have been the baby's room. So, pretty much feeling blessed right now," said Tobias Alexander

To neighbors that live at the corner of Nebraska and Pierson, these crashes don't come as a surprise.

"Pretty much a racetrack. I've seen cars come through here that I know are going 60 or 70 miles per hour. People just blow through the stop sign over here on the other side of the street all the time. This is becoming a real serious problem here," said Kevin Ottman.

Kevin Oltman's daughter's car suffered 4 to 5–thousand dollars in damage while it sat in the driveway and got hit Sunday morning.

"We need some flashing red light. It's a safety issue. Someone is going to get seriously injured or killed if this isn't resolved," said Ottman.

West Peoria street officials say Pierson Hill does not have enough traffic to warrant any lights, but other options are under consideration due to the recent concern.

"Maybe make the stop sign larger. We do have larger stop signs and maybe put rumble strips in before the stop sign to warn citizens that it's coming," said Henry Strube, West Peoria Street Department Manager.

Whatever happens, the residents that live at this T–intersection want the accidents to stop.

Outside of these these two crashes in two days, West Peoria officials and Peoria Police both say this T–Intersection does not have a high accident rate.
