Local Law enforcement agencies are no longer pointing fingers at one another.
The July 3rd gun scare at State Farm has the Bloomington and Normal Police Departments along with the McLean County Sheriff's Office finding ways to solve their lack of communication.
News 25's Syreeta Baker has the steps they are taking to get on the same wavelength.
It turned out it wasn't a weapon two weeks ago.
But the response to a service employee carrying a long pipe outside State Farm was a wake up call for the company and law enforcement.
"To make sure if something like this happens again everybody knows what his or her role is," says FraserEngerman.
And that we do the best job we can to protect everyone.
"There is a problem and what I think is important is to let the citizens know now that it's out there we've had discussions on it and we're going to work to resolve this issue," says Mike Emery.
The issue being that Normal and McLean County use a digital radio system, while the Bloomington Police Department uses an analog radio system.
Making communication between the three agencies difficult.
"We had problems with the digital system in the past. We wanted to make sure we didn't get into another digital system that didn't work," says Steve Stockton.
Sheriff Mike Emery's open criticism of the communication problems between the agencies during the July 3rd gun scare is the catalyst that brought all three departments together to make a plan.
"Our goal is interoperability. Everybody on the same system but in fairness to Bloomington they are not on star COM and I think in that the best route to go is to make it work by what means and technologies we have available."
McLean County Board Member Tari Renner is running for Bloomington mayor. He blames the leadership in Bloomington for the communication problem.
"The Mayor and the police chief should have listened to the reports and concerns of everyone else in the community five and a half years ago."
The Bloomington Police Department is focused now on the future.
Taking a closer look at how they will bridge the radio communication gap between themselves and the rest of McLean County.
The three departments plan on holding multi-agency events to train for future situations like the one at State Farm.
