Earlier this month Starbucks announced it would shut 600 of its coffee shops nationwide to cope with the slumping economy.

Now the company has announced three local shops are on the list of closures.

The stores on Sterling Avenue in Peoria, Henderson Street in Galesburg and Etna Road in Ottawa are slated to close.

The Starbucks on Sterling just opened in February and its developer says the shop has done brisk business. Les Cohen says he's considering starting a letter writing campaign to try to keep the location open.

It's one of six Starbucks shops in Peoria.

Starbucks coffee is not even good coffee, who cares if they close them all. Make coffee at home, and put that money into your savings.

it's weird their closing the one that makes more business than the one on prospect or the one on pioneer parkway. i say keep the one on sterling because it is closer to the mall and right off the interstate

In this tough economy businesses need to cut costs, but it would make more sense to close Pioneer Pkwy or Prospect/Rte 150, they are harder to access. The Sterling location is easy for I-74 traffic to access, even close the Glen/University location would make more sense. Hopefully they rethink this choice.
