And Administrators say it's a much–needed change...
Some of the schools have not been remodeled since the 1980s.

Glen Elementary School is one of three Unit–5 schools being renovated this summer.

The budget allows for the district to spend 50 thousand dollars per classroom to make changes.

"This was our opportunity to take what we call our inner center schools and make sure that they were as nice and new as the ones we built on the north and east side" said Gary Niehaus, Unit-5 Superintendent

The school is getting new furniture, carpeting, ceilings, and windows.
They're also getting state–of–the–art Smart Board projectors.

Superintendent Gary Niehaus says some schools in the district have barely changed since their construction in 1974.
He says the renovations will be positive.

"I think we'll see actual improved test scores from simply having the aesthetics being something that show this district cares about all students."

Principal Carmen Bergmann says the school's appearance will not be the only thing changing in the fall.

"A lot of focus on trying to block our language arts, so that we can make sure we're really addressing some of the needs we have in early literacy especially" said the Glen Elementary School Principal.

In addition, the students will receive targeted attention based on their academic needs.

Niehaus says the students also had a say in the renovation as well.
Glen Elementary is getting a new and improved playground.

"They're going to be real excited about that because they got to pick the design and what it looks like" said Niehaus.

The superintendent says all renovations will be completed before school starts August 19th.
