Fewer jobs and more unemployment in Illinois, that's the report Thursday from the Department of Labor, Bureau of Statistics and the Illinois Department of Employment Security.

Total payroll jobs in Illinois dropped by more than 6–thousand from May to June.

The unemployment rate in Illinois climbed almost half a point to 6.8% in June.

The Illinois jobless rate is now at its highest level since June of 1993.

A break down of the numbers by metropolitan area is due out next week.

In May unemployment in Peoria and Bloomington Normal hovered between 4.8 and 4.4 percent according to the Bureau of Statistics.
