Officials with the Peoria County Sheriff's Department say 23–year–old Nick Mentgen was released from jail early Thursday morning after serving his sentence.

Co–defendants David Crady and Daniel Cox finished their six–month sentence Wednesday in connection with last summer's death of Danny Dahlquist.

Crady, Cox, Mentgen and Ryan Johnson fired roman candles into a bedroom where Dahlquist was sleeping causing a fire. Dahlquist died from injuries in the blaze.

Ryan Johnson remains behind bars until his scheduled release later this week.

All of the men except Cox were Bradley soccer players at the time of the incident. All had been drinking alcohol.

It was a accident and at that age many kids do stupid things.Just living with what they did is a punishment in itself. It was their best friend.I forgive them.

They have to live with the fact that they killed someone for the rest of their lives, just think about that.

I don't know how justice can possibly be served in situations such as this. Every one of us has done something stupid in our youth that could have ended up this same way--we just got lucky. These are not hardened criminals who meant to do harm to someone, they were young people who got carried away. What good could possibly come from incarcerating them for the rest of their lives?

EVEN THOUGH THESE CONVICTS AND THAT IS WHAT THEY ARE NOW. DID NOT MEAN TO KILL SOMEONE. IT HAPPEN......WELL JUSTICE WAS NOT SERVED IN THIS CASE FOR DANNY....THE CONVICTS WERE IN FOR HOW LONG??
