No Progress on Budget Cuts

Illinois House Representatives are having mixed results blocking some of Governor Blagojevich's budget cuts.

Last week, Governor Rod Blagojevich cut 1–point–4 billion from the budget. So far, House reps have failed three times in efforts to restore money to programs cut.

The Illinois House was successful in reversing about $400 million in budget cuts imposed by the Governor. That means at least $1 billion in cuts will take effect, puttinga serious squeeze on state services.

However, even reductions the House voted against Wednesday could still end up taking effect. That's because reversing them requires
agreement from the state Senate, which appears unlikely.

Senate President Emil Jones said Wednesday the state doesn't have the money.
