Peoria Residents may soon say 'hi' to a Hyvee. The Peoria Planning Commission gave a green light to expanding the enterprise zone for Sheridan Village and the Metro Centre.

The proposal will now go before the city council for a final decision as early as next month.

The expansion would allow a HyVee grocery store and a CEFCU to build at Sheridan Village.

It would also allow the Metro Center to go ahead with its improvement plans, .including façade improvements, light fixtures and more green space.

Development Specialist, Rachael Parker, says this would be a great boost to the heart of Peoria.

"I think everyone's pretty excited. Anytime there's a new development that's generating more sales tax, possibly more property tax revenue, cause we're hoping this new development will spread out to the residential area– people will want to live close so they can walk to shop or walk to the grocery store," said Parker.

The expansion adds 120 acres to the current enterprise zone.
