First Renovation Since 1844

By News 25 Staff

Open arms and open doors. That's how Bishop Keith Ackerman of the Quincy diocese sees the future of the Christ Church of Limestone in Hanna City.

On Saturday, church leaders and a small crowd of parishioners celebrated the ground breaking of the church's newest addition. This is the church's first renovation since it was built in 1844.

Bishop Ackerman calls the new parish building an opportunity to show the church's support for the community. And, it's a support that many parishioners feel will be valued for a long time to come.

"This building has been here for 174 years. We hope that with the addition of the parish hall that it will stay for many, many more years. And, we're building this more for the future than we are for ourselves," Church Member Arch Worsfield says.

Church leaders say the new building will contain luxuries the original church lacks...among them, indoor plumbing.
