Because of high gas prices, Triple–A Chicago Motor Club predicts fewer people will be driving during the 4th of July holiday.
Still with any holiday weekend there's always the risk of more drinking and driving.

But for those who do get behind the wheel, Illinois State Police want everyone to know they are trying to keep roads safe.
Police are ramping up patrols starting Thursday.
State police are saturating the interstates through the weekend.
They will be on the look out for speeding, seat belt violations and drunk drivers.

"The Fourth of July this year is on a Friday, so that means it went from a one day event to a four day event. People are going to have parties at their house, people are going to be staying home because of the high gas prices. So more people will have the parties at their house and more than likely they will have alcohol at these parties. Be safe be cautious. If you're going to consume alcohol at the party and you don't live at the house, just make sure someone sober is driving," said state trooper Tony Halsey.

This year's roadside safety checks is part of the 'You Drink and Drive, You Lose' campaign.
Peoria police will also have another 'No Refusal' weekend.
Police will be able to obtain warrants at the scene to collect blood samples from suspected drunk drivers who refuse breath or blood tests.
Peoria Police conducted their first "No Refusal Weekend" during the Memorial Day weekend.
