"Going Green" is sweeping the nation and it seems the city of Pekin is following suit - the old fashioned way.

City officials are planning to expand Pekin's Railsplitter's Park by fall.
A $50,000 donation to the Pekin Park Foundation made the project possible.
Mayor Dave Tebben says the city's housing and business markets are also doing well.
He adds the expansion is just more evidence of high local spirits in the face of a grim national economy.

"It's a balancing act, but I have to say the heart of Illinois, and Pekin's part of that, we seem to be able to hold our own with that good Midwestern work ethic that is paying dividends," said Tebben.

The park on Pekin's south side, was just established last year in honor of World War Two veteran William A. Kasley.
Plans for the site include a soccer field and a new entrance off of Herman Street.

The City of Pekin has nothing to do with the Pekin Park District. The Railsplitters Park Expansion was in no way helped by the City of Pekin. It was handled exclusively by the Pekin Park Foundation and the Pekin Park District. Bob Blackwell the Parks Director and the Pekin Park District Board did all the work here not the City of Pekin. Thank God we have a Park District. Shame on Dave Tebben for trying to take credit for something he knew nothing about!
