A preliminary trial date for alleged spree killer Nicholas Sheley is set.
Sheley is suspected of killing a Galesburg man as well as seven others in Illinois and Missouri. He appeared in a Knox County Court room where a judge set his preliminary hearing date for July 21st.
News 25's Syreeta Baker was inside the courtroom for Sheley's appearance and joins us live in the newsroom with more.
Police brought Nicholas Sheley inside the courthouse today in an orange jail suit and shackles.

He stood in front of Judge William Davis with his eyes glued to the ground. The courtroom was filled to capacity as the judge read the list of charges against him. Sheley is charged with five different counts, including first-degree murder.
Prosecutors say Sheley struck 65-year-old Ronald Randall in the head with a blunt instrument.
His body was found Monday behind a dumpster near a Hy-Vee Grocery Store.
"Anyone would feel compassion and sympathy at their loss as far an approach to the job we hope we can offer them some type of closure and justice through our actions in our office," says John Pepmeyer.
"I guess there is no stereotype for a serial killer you know. Some of them can look normal and their not. He looks pretty evil but he was very articulate with his words," says April English.

The Knox County State's attorney has not determined if he will seek the death penalty against Sheley. During the proceedings Sheley turned down the offer of a public defender to represent him. Sheley is scheduled back in court later this month.
