Samuel L. Jackson captured our hearts in the movie portraying an inspirational basketball coach.
But the real Coach made a pit stop in Peoria Friday afternoon.

Caterpillar Inc. hosted a Peoria area Diversity and Inclusion Celebration and brought in Coach Ken Carter as an inspirational speaker.
He addressed hundreds of people inside the Peoria Civic Center Theater bringing with him a message of hope.

My message is real clear, we want to be kind and generous to everyone we meet. And let people know and kids know, that you don't get compensated by the hour, you get compensated by the value you bring to that hour. You constantly have to bring value, you have to read the book you've said you're going to read. You've gotta take the class you said you were going to take...it's about action.

Coach Carter is currently starting his own school called the Coach Carter Impact academy.
Carter says classes will run 12 hours a day from 6 am to 6 pm.
The candid coach also said the movie that shares his namesake is 98.5 percent accurate.
